Behavior Modification, Including Aggression Issues:
Behavior problems are the leading cause for frustration in dog owners. Jumping, digging, running, fence climbing, aggression, excessive
barking, chewing; the list goes on. It is a misconception that if a dog is obedience trained it will have no behavior problems. If your dog is
having issues with manners, respect or any other common behavior problem, but will 'sit' when asked then these must be addressed for
obedience training to have any real value.
My approach is Behavior first, Obedience second.
You can have a well behaved, obedience trained dog when given the right tools and understanding on how to accomplish this.
I have worked with and rehabilitated many hundreds of dogs with behavior problems, including those from rescue organizations, shelters,
abusive situations and pounds. Although it is not possible to rehabilitate all dogs, in most cases the behavior problems can be resolved
with dedication, time, training and an understanding as to what is causing the problem.
If you have a dog with a behavior problem the first step is to evaluate what the problem is and the best way to resolve it and them move
forward from there with a training program designed to address the issue.
If the problem is aggression, know that dogs NEVER grow out of aggression, they grow into it. The longer it takes to address the issue the
worse it becomes and the more dangerous the dog will become. If you have a dog showing any signs of aggression the best approach is to
deal with it immediately. Delays in doing so often do not work out well for the dog and often result in someone being injured.
